Much like light or shadow in traditional installation art, scent is now being used to define, divide, and transform environments.
This trend aligns with a broader "new renaissance" in the art world, where audiences are seeking deep, authentic, and embodied encounters. We are seeing a rejection of AI-driven perfection in favor of installations that demand physical presence, evoke memory, and linger long after the viewer has departed.
Introducing QUOD SEMINAS, METIS
At Viti Vinci, we have long believed that scent is the most direct bridge to the subconscious. It shapes atmosphere and builds invisible architecture within any space. Our latest immersive project, QUOD SEMINAS, METIS, created by studio director Victor Alarcón, is a direct exploration of this philosophy.
On exhibition at the Espai Buit gallery in Palma, Mallorca, from 19th -24th September as part of the La Nit de l'Art festival, this piece invites visitors to move through scent as if it were a solid, material landscape. The installation is composed of 36 suspended linen panels—each carefully impregnated with a bespoke composition of resin, beeswax, and fragrance.
A Journey of Reflection
QUOD SEMINAS, METIS (Latin for “What you sow, you reap”) asks a fundamental question for our time: If everything we do leaves a trace, what kind of trace do we choose to leave?
To experience the work is to enter a dialogue with both the space and the self. A serpentine path guides the visitor into a circular chamber, facilitating a deliberate transition from action to reflection. The architecture of the Espai Buit gallery—with its historic proportions, natural light, and quiet presence—is not just a backdrop, but an essential component of the installation. We have carefully inserted the work to respect the gallery's history, allowing the scent to interact with the existing volume of the rooms, turning the act of moving through the exhibit into a sequence of sensory discoveries.
